Submission of Revised and/or Accepted Manuscripts

When a manuscript requires revision, the author should resubmit the revised manuscript to the Web site. Papers that have been returned for revisions should be resubmitted within 30 days. Revisions returned after the requested period may be considered as new submissions. In the event revisions are returned by post, submit a diskette (3.5” or CD) and at least two copies of the manuscript (including two copies of high-quality, camera-ready original artwork) incorporating all changes made during revision (hard copies of artwork are necessary even if submitting digital artwork). These will be submitted to the Publisher for production purposes. Supplementary material for publication in the Electronic Edition must be submitted electronically on a separate diskette (see http://ifora_datadeposits Section 16 of Manuscript Elements) or on the online submission site ( http://submit.proteinscience.org).

File format. Final manuscript text accepted for publication should be submitted in MS Word or WordPerfect, though Word .doc files are the preferred file format. Accompanying tables should also be created in Word and saved directly within the Word manuscript file. The publisher has the right to reject final submissions that are not created in one of these formats. [NOTE: If you absolutely do not have access to Word and have access only to LaTex, however, then please submit in LaTex format--LaTex papers will not be turned away, though papers submitted in LaTex format are strongly discouraged because of technical issues with the conversion process from LaTex to Word. As a result, papers submitted in LaTex will delay publication.]

Please note that although Protein Science is partially subsidized by the Protein Society, all articles except for Invited Reviews are charged for page charges, and there is also a charge for printing figures in color. Corresponding authors who are members of the Protein Society will be able to publish one (1) free color figure.

Math Objects Within Final Submissions. Before printing or submitting your final Word file, please make sure to UPDATE any embedded MathType objects in the file; otherwise, italics and other font specs might be lost. Please doublecheck your Word manuscript printout visually to ensure the accuracy of fonts within the Word file. In addition, remember that Greek symbols should be inserted directly from Word's "symbol insert" pulldown menu; equations/schemes should be inserted using MathType or Word's Equation Editor.

Color Artwork. Note that color artwork is processed in CMYK format for print and processed in RGB format for online. To avoid delays at the page proof stage, authors are expected to have reviewed their artwork in both color formats prior to final submission. Final submission of electronic color artwork must be in CMYK (for print purposes), though remember that online views of color artwork will be in RGB. Be aware that some color shifts between the two color modes are unavoidable. If you choose to submit color artwork digitally (in addition to high-quality reflective artwork, which is always required despite any digital artwork submission), the resolution of your file must be a minimum of 300 dpi. Final digital artwork must be created either in Photoshop or Illustrator and saved as either .eps or .tif format (see more detailed guidelines for digital artwork submissions).

Artwork in General. It is best to avoid heavy letters, which often close up when reduced. Likewise, colors of similar shades should be avoided because, depending on final art sizing to conform to journal style, similar shades may be difficult to differentiate. Also, avoid using very light colors, since these typically don't reproduce well. Use Helvetica typeface in point sizes no smaller than 8 pt and no larger than 10 pt, except for the main callouts (e.g., A, B, C), which should be 12-pt boldface.
